God has a special place for Gentile believers in His purposes for the land and people of Israel. A key role for Christians is helping Jewish people to reach the Promised Land. Those who do so will receive blessings from Him.

The basis for these statements is found in Numbers 10:29-33. ‘Now Moses said to Hobab the son of Reul the Midianite, Moses’ father-in law, “We are setting out for the place of which the LORD said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will treat you well; for the LORD has promised good things to Israel.” And he said to him, “I will not go, but I will depart to my own land and to my own relatives.” So Moses said, “Please do not leave, inasmuch as you know how we are to camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. And it shall be, if you go with us … that whatever good the LORD will do to us, the same we will do to you.” So they departed from the mountain of the LORD on a journey of three days; and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them … to search out a resting place for them.’ (NKJV)
This episode, of course, took place during the first, and best known, aliyah (return) from Egypt. Great as that exodus was, it will be totally eclipsed by the second exodus, which is taking place today. When completed it will bring the scattered remnants of the Jewish people back to Israel from all over the world (see Jeremiah 16:14-15). This return will be a prelude to the return of the Messiah. And just as Hobab the Midianite was invited to help the children of Israel in the exodus from Egypt, so Gentiles can be involved with the latter-day exodus — if they have the faith of Abraham. That means all who trust in His Word.

Moses wasn’t interested in having Hobab along just for company; he had an important job for this Gentile to do: ‘you can be our eyes’. As a nomad, Hobab had trained his eyes to find the right desert trails to follow — just as Bedouin trackers are experts in helping the Israeli army today. Applying this spiritually, Christians can be the ‘eyes’ of the Jewish people. In accordance with Jeremiah 16:16, Ebenezer - Operation Exodus has many fishermen in the former Soviet Union finding Jewish people and showing them from the Scriptures God’s plan for them to go to Israel.

In Jeremiah 14:10, God says of His people: ‘… they have loved to wander…’

A second reason why Moses didn’t want Hobab to leave was ‘you know how we are to camp in the wilderness’. Ebenezer has set up many ‘camps’ on the way back to the Promised Land. They are places, often hotels, where they can stay after a long train or bus ride, or internal flight in the fSU, before being taken to the airport for the flight to Tel Aviv.

When they reach Israel they are helped to ‘camp’ and put down their roots in the land. Ebenezer has a ‘camp’ in Jerusalem — an office where new immigrants can receive help in overcoming problems of settling down.
Aliyah work must be Holy Spirit-led.

Psalm 105:8-11
“He remembers his covenant forever...the covenant he madewith Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac. He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant: ‘to you I give you the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit.;”
